What is the Difference Between a  Region, Chapter, and a Satellite Location?

Regions - Large Geographic Area​ with at least one Chapter or Satellite Location​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Chapters - Locations with a

Satellite Locations - Locations that offers Charity Sewing Day Events and other Special Events. ​​​

What is the Difference Between a  Charity Sewing Day, Open Studio Class, and Paid-for Classes?

Charity Sewing / Crocheting / Knitting Day Event 

  • These are Free Events where people gather to make handmade items. 

  • Some events focus on sewn items, others focus on crocheting or knitting.

  • Sometimes you bring your own sewing machine and sometimes there are machines available to use.

  • Supplies, kits, patterns, and fabric are provided.

  • Handmade items will be delivered to local agencies in need of these items.

  • Check with the Location Leader about the specific details for that event.

  • These events are often led by volunteers or funded through local grants.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​​​​​​​​​​Open Studio Classes 

  • These are Free Classes offered in several locations.

  • You can bring your personal projects or your sewing machine.

  • You are able to use our space, cutting station, ironing station, sewing machines and sewing supplies.

  • An experienced teacher is available to help with questions.

  • These classes are often funded through local grants.

Paid-For Classes 

  • We offer a variety of specialty classes and skill building classes.

  • There is a reasonable fee for each class.

  • Classes are offered in all our Chapter Locations.

  • Our Teachers are experienced and work well with all ages and skill levels.​​​​

Starting a Chapter or Satellite Location

Getting Started

  • A good way to start is to organize a Charity Sewing Day Event at a local library, church or community center.

  • Contact a Local Agency to see what types of items are needed

  • Ask for donations of supplies to make those needed items. Good places include FB Free Pages, Local Newspapers, Local Sewing Groups

Starting a College
Student Chapter

Getting Started

  • Talk to someone in the Student Activities Department to find out the requirements for starting a new Student Organization.

  • Gather some friends who are also interested in sewing and community service.

  • Find out how to book a room for a meeting or Charity Sewing Event.

  • Ask a Faculty or Staff Member to be your Advisor or Mentor.
