Russ Beasley
Quilting, Sewing
Russ needed a creative outlet when his graveyard shift nursing job split on non-consecutive nights. A family friend that owns the local quilt shop showed him what book to get and how to start. Russ taught himself with the book and early YouTube videos. It took 5 years to complete his first quilt (a Double Wedding Ring) but he was already building a stack of UFOs. His nursing career relocated him to Tucson, Arizona, where he became very involved with the Tucson Quilters Guild. After almost a decade of being self-taught, Russ relearned quilting basics and best practices from guild members that are International Show Quilt Winners, published quilting authors, and teachers.
Russ truly enjoyed the "Quilting for Others" committee of the Tucson Guild. In 2023 Russ relocated to his home town of Florence, AL to care for his parents. Still working full time ,he began teaching at a local quilt store, but missed the community of the "Quilting for Others". In his quest to establish a local version, he discovered Sew4Service and is organizing Charity Sew Days in North Alabama with the hopes of new Chapters across the South East.
Russ shares his passion by teaching the Intro To Quilting course and other patchwork quilt patterns for beginners, intermediates, and those of us who want to sew outside our current abilities.
