Quilting with Jenny

Jenny will share a quilting technique or pattern to grow your skills!

Service Description

Each month, Jenny will share a quilting technique or pattern to grow your skills! Classes do not have to be taken sequentially, but participants should have basic sewing machine skills unless otherwise noted. Bring your own machine, or reserve one of ours. You will need a basic sewing kit such as scissors, seam ripper, pins, marking tool, bobbins, extra needles, etc. Improv quilting Intimidated by piecework quilting? Then this class is the one for you! No measuring, no matching, NO STRESS! This is a scrap-busting technique that you can turn into modern quilt blocks or use as small project pieces. April: Applique Three Ways Adding appliqué to your quilting is a great way to expand your quilting repertoire! We will try raw edge and stabilizer turning, and even take a turn at needle-turn hand-sewing. May: Strip Quilting 1 We’ll be using 2.5 inch strips to make sets that we can use to make a fun, beginner-friendly block. Participants can use our “scrappy” strips or bring their own. June: Strip Quilting 2 More fun with strips! This time, we’ll make a more complex block by making a strip set and then slicing and rotating to make a diamond pattern. It’s helpful if participants have taken Strip Quilting 1, but not mandatory if they have some piecing experience. Participants can use our “scrappy” strips or bring their own. July: Quilting Basics: Patchwork If you’d like to dip your toe into piecework or would like a refresher hone your skills, in this class we will cover accurate cutting techniques, seam consistency, and matching tips for precise patchwork! We will make a placemat top that can be completed at home or used in a subsequent quilting class. August: Chronicle Quilting These scrappy blocks were born of necessity during the depression, by simply using what was on hand- newspaper and scraps of fabric. Come explore this fun, stash-busting technique and explore how you can incorporate them into your quilting style. September: English Paper Piecing In this hand-sewing class, we will use paper templates to create hexigons that can be joined to make appliqués, quilt tops, or trivets. We’ll talk about fabric selection and fussy cutting, too! Come join for a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Participants will get extra fabric to take home to continue working on their projects.
