Soft Fabric Texture

Michelle Lutz

I am a mixed media artist whose practice brings together fabric collage, Kinusaiga, embroidery, slow stitch, sewing, and intuitive doodling as a form of self-expression. Working primarily with reclaimed textiles and found materials, I explore themes of memory, healing, and self-expression through processes that honor both material and emotional histories.

Rooted in meditation, mindfulness, and intuition, my creative practice embraces slowness and presence, allowing each piece to emerge organically through handwork and reflection. Layered fabrics, stitched marks, embroidered details, and spontaneous drawn elements become a visual language of connection, resilience, and transformation. Through tactile surfaces and contemplative making, I create works that invite stillness, curiosity, and a deeper engagement with the stories held within both cloth and self.

Currently I serve as the Euclid Chapter Coordinator and an instructor for Sew4Service. I enjoy working with the staff and volunteers to sort donations, make charity kits, teach volunteers how to sew, make kits and help our organization. I love meeting the members of the Creator’s Club who bring us their finished kit items. They always amaze me at their skills and talents. We love beginners who are just starting out in sewing and fiber crafts.

Light Blue Fabric

Personal Projects

Kinusaiga is a gentle art form using a foam base and fabric. It’s pressed into the base to create a “quilted” look without sewing. Here are the photos I would like to highlight using this technique.

My slow stitching has taken many twists and turns throughout the progression of learning this art form for personal growth. (Here are some photos for this)

I am also a doodler using pens and markers along with templates to create fun and meditative art.

These next few photos have been class sample photos.

More of my artistic pursuits follow. I made a coat from an old quilt that was full of thread bare patches. I shared this as a demonstration at one of Sew4Service’s events.

Michelle Meditation Scroll .jpg

This is a meditation scroll using fabric scraps and embroidery thread. I practice this art form of slow stitch when I need to slow down the pace of my life and focus on one thing at a time. I have classes on this a few times a year.

Michelle Embroidery Work.jpg

This is a sample of my detailed embroidery work. It combines surface embroidery work with traditional stitches.
