August 1 Kindness Sewing Circle

Calling all volunteer Sewists! Anne Marie here with NPower Services and project: Kindness. Over the last several months we’ve had such a great time getting to meet you and helping our community. We have a fairly regular group of Neurodiverse adults that attend our monthly sewing circle. Some love to match fabrics and sort, some are happy to iron all the wrinkles out of fabric, some are getting pretty good at turning projects right side out, and we even have a few using sewing machines! Each one needs at least a little guidance, some need someone to walk them through each step every time, and some just need gentle guidance to stay on task and not wander around. They all need your companionship!

A couple month’s ago the group requested to make tote bags that they could give to family members as gifts. My heart melted at this request as they had been working so hard that day and the months before to make projects for strangers.

So August 1st we’re going to make simple tote bags. Whatever the sewist is comfortable making and can come up with from the fabric we have on hand that their partner chooses for their special someone. Fat Quarter bag, perfect! Super quick, fold it in half, sew up the sides, and stitch on straps, great! A small ditty bag with a simple drawstring, you got it! Simple, quick, easy!

I’m never sure how many participants we’ll have. I’m expecting at least 10, we might have more. If we finish our totes or if we have more sewists than participants, we always have other projects to keep hands busy.

If you are able to come August 1, please RSVP. We’ve been working extra hard to get a good crowd there because we’re having a film crew there to get footage and do a couple interview segments for our NPower video. DON’T WORRY! You don’t have to be on camera!! But you might be in the background so we’re asking for anyone attending to fill out a photo release waiver. If you’re really against this, but want to help I will do everything I possibly can to accommodate you. Here’s the link to the waiver form https://npowerservices.com/waiver/ and I’ll have a computer there in case you can’t get to it or decide to come last minute.

Thank you all and Sew4Service for partnering with us and providing this opportunity to give back to others.
