This recognition may have been brief, but it celebrates something much bigger: a growing community of volunteers, students, donors, shoppers, teachers and nonprofit partners who believe textile arts can make a meaningful difference.

At Sew4Service, donated fabric, yarn and sewing supplies are given a new purpose. Volunteers transform these materials into quilts, blankets, bags, baby items, clothing protectors, pet supplies and many other useful creations. The finished items are then distributed to nonprofit organizations serving people and animals throughout Northeast Ohio.

But our work is about more than the items we make.

Sew4Service brings people together to learn new skills, share their knowledge and find meaningful ways to serve their communities. Some people join us as experienced sewists, quilters, knitters or crocheters. Others arrive having never threaded a sewing machine or held a crochet hook. Everyone is welcome to learn, create and contribute in a way that works for them.

Through our chapters in Euclid, Lakewood, Medina and Alliance—as well as our satellite programs and community partnerships—we are helping preserve textile-arts skills while making creative education more accessible. Our classes, Fiberology sessions, Charity Sewing Days and at-home projects allow people of different ages, abilities and experience levels to participate.

The FOX 8 recognition belongs to every person who makes this work possible:

  • Our volunteers, who generously contribute their time and talents

  • Our fabric and supply donors, who give materials a second life

  • Our teachers and staff, who patiently encourage each learner

  • Our customers, whose purchases help support our mission

  • Our nonprofit partners, who connect handmade items with people who need them

  • Our grantors, sponsors and individual supporters, who help keep our programs accessible

Together, this community demonstrates what can happen when creativity and service are stitched together.

We are grateful to FOX 8 for recognizing Sew4Service and helping more Northeast Ohio residents discover our mission. Every opportunity to share our story also creates an opportunity for someone new to get involved—whether by volunteering, learning a textile art, donating materials, shopping at one of our Fabric Stash Stores or supporting our work financially.

Thank you to everyone who has helped Sew4Service grow. This shout-out is for all of you!
